Whether you are looking for
kayaking skills, new friends, white water
fun, healthy outdoor
exercise – or just the occasional dunking
in the Vienne river – the Canoe Kayak
Club of Confolens is a great place to be.
English speakers are welcome; large and small,
landlubbers and old sea dogs. You not only
get the camaraderie of the club members – and
great views of the Charente and the Limousine
as you paddle down river – but will effortlessly
improve your conversational French into the
bargain. When someone shouts at you ‘left’, ‘right’, ‘slower’ or ‘faster’ as
you descend that rapid, you’ll soon pick
it up.
When it comes to age, all you need to be is
game enough to try. The beginners’ class
mainly attracts 8 to 18 year olds, but no one
turned a hair when a woman of 50 recently joined
the novices. And adults who would rather remain
dockside, but can help with minibuses and trailer-towing,
are always welcome.
The main thing is that the group is immensely
friendly, and the people committed to making
the club hold together as a social structure,
including picnics and evening gatherings. So
you will find a collection of like-minded people
very eager to make you feel at home and practice
their English on you.
Ring Tony on 06 89 56 34 11 for details, or
mail Club. But if you don’t
think your French is up to it, then ring 05
45 71 42 08 and speak to Steve or Avenda in
English or
mail them.
